Healthcare in France
Unlike the UK National Health Service, the health care service in France is not free. Even if you are registered with CPAM (La Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie) you will need a private top-up insurance policy.
People who go to France with the intention of staying in France are not really visitors. By intent they are settlers and the E111/EHIC becomes invalid and should not be used, meaning every expatriate living in France needs health insurance of some sort.
The notion that private insurance and private treatment is superior to publicly provided treatment is possibly correct in many countries, but is not the case in France. The state system supplemented by a good top-up, is superior in many respects to any health insurance that the private sector could offer and at affordable prices.
